Four weeks have passed since I completed General Assembly’s Data Science Immersive. While I am now on the lookout for job opportunities, the seasonality of the year dictates that I do a review for 2017. I am very much a private individual and like to keep my cards close, so I have decided not to publish my specific goals. However, I will note here that most of the goals are focused on the theme of ‘Stewardship’.
In the course of doing my personal review for the year, I stumbled upon Ray Dalio’s new book, Principles – Life & Work. I bought the eBook on Amazon two days ago and have not been able to stop reading since!
Ray Dalio is a well-known investor in the world of finance. For those not familiar, consider this: he is the founder of Bridgewater Associates, one of the most successful hedge funds in history. The returns he has produced for his investors have been nothing short of legendary. Now that he is entering what he calls his ‘third phase’ in life, he has distilled all the principles he has followed in his life and career into a book for all to see. It makes sense that he has something valuable to say and I cannot agree more. Reading through the pages feels like an instruction manual – I am amazed by the carefully thought-out structure the book provides. The principles are straightforward and some even feel intuitive, yet the difficult part is in actually implementing what his suggestions. I highly recommend it as a year-end read.
