In my line as a social media analyst, I’m tasked with looking at trends in the consumer market to answer business questions. My category focus recently shifted to concentrate on Japanese beauty and personal care. As a result, I end up looking at pages upon pages of cosmetics and beauty care blogs, forums, social media and e-ecommerce sites.
Suffice to say, the learning curve was steep as I had little to no prior experience dealing with beauty care products (I am a guy). But having completed a number of projects I must say I am now safely more knowledgeable than the average guy about facial cleansing products.
I thought of starting this miniseries within my blog to highlight the trends that I am seeing in the Japanese market. I read very widely to get up to speed on the latest happenings in Japan and think this might be helpful as a log for my own observations as well.
